Gambling Defeated, Same-Day Voter Registration Restored

The results are in for the 2011 off-year ballot initiatives in Maine.

Here is how the people voted:

  • Question 1: Yes; This vote restores same-day voter registration in Maine
  • Question 2: No; Mainers rejected proposals to build new gambling facilities in Biddeford and Calais
  • Question 3: No; Mainers also rejected a new gambling facility in Lewiston
  • Question 4: Yes; Mainers approved a change to the state's Constitution which would set redistricting of the Maine Legislature, congressional districts and county commissioner districts at a ten-year schedule

    And here are the results of a few local initiatives of interest:

  • Residents of Cumberland County have approved a 33 million dollar bond to renovate the Cumberland County Civic Center
  • Raymond Wallace of Dexter, a Republican, kept his seat in Maine's House District 24 [BDN]
  • Due to the complexities of instant-runoff voting, the next Mayor of Portland won't be announced until today
