Snowe, Collins Announce $41 Million for Military Projects in Brunswick and Bangor
Senators Olympia J. Snowe and Susan Collins (R-Maine) announced today that the Senate Appropriations Committee allotted $41 million for the fiscal year 2010 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations spending bill.
The bill would fund military projects in Brunswick and Bangor, allowing $28 million for the construction of a new hangar to replace the existing 55-year-old Maine Air National Guard hangar at the Bangor International Airport as well as $13 million for the construction of a joint Armed Forces Reserve Center in Brunswick.
"This is extremely welcome news for our military communities in Maine," said Senators Snowe and Collins in a joint statement. "With the construction of a new hangar, the Maine Air Guard will be able to better protect and preserve their aircraft, while the new Reserve Center in Brunswick will ensure our men and women in uniform have access to the resources and training they need to succeed. As Congress moves forward with its appropriations process, we will continue to strongly support funding for these vital projects."
The fiscal year 2010 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations spending bill will now be put before the Senate for a vote.
