Maine's Census Participation Lagging Behind Nation

Portland, Maine -- Have you mailed back your census form yet? Hundreds of billions in federal dollars will be doled out to the states based on population levels determined by the 2010 Census.
Thus far, an estimated 61 percent of Mainers have participated. That's below the national participation rate of 66 percent. With 6 days left before the forms are due, the Pine Tree State is currently tied for worst in New England with Vermont.
In 2000, Maine's participation rate was 65 percent, also below the national rate of 72 percent a decade ago.
