Maine to Net Over $100k from Medical Marijuana Sales Tax Receipts

Maine's Governor John Baldacci has just signed a bill that will tax the state's medical marijuana at the state's five percent sales tax rate, according to a report by MPBN.. Maine voters approved a measure in November to allow nonprofit medical marijuana dispensaries to operate across the state.
The Legislature's Taxation Committee co-chair, Sen. Joseph Perry, a Democrat representing Bangor, claimed the tax was needed to raise revenues which could then be used to regulate sales of the drug.
