Where Have All the Greenies Gone?
According to the New Yorker Magazine of April 27, the first Earth Day (April 22, 1970) was “a raucously exuberant affair,” during which some twenty million Americans took part. Judging from the current coverage, the excitement has certainly died out. Part of this is our national character of getting behind only what is excitingly new. We have, after all, collectively, a terrible attention span. But, don’t we care about our earth anymore?
