No Reason to Favor Private Health Insurers
In the national debate about health care reform absolutely nothing makes less sense than the positive views of much of the public about private health insurers. There is no good reason to have positive views of private health insurers, the companies that have relentlessly increased the costs for very limited health insurance. Copays, deductibles and premiums have raped those lucky enough to have health insurance while also making it very difficult much of the time to get coverage for all kinds of health problems. I have to read through this twice. I disagree almost entirely with this mis-educated point of view. I do agree with one point (drum roll please)the need to reform the system.
I myself have used single payer systems in my service in the Army, as well as my care with the VA.
"Of course, private health insurers charge so much money that they pay physicians and hospitals more money than Medicare, which is primarily a tactic to keep much of those parts of the health care system supportive of maintaining the private insurance system."
- This is flat out wrong. The reason health care costs so much is that currently disfunctional single-payer programs like Medicare are not paying their bills to the hospitals and doctors. If you look up how much money is owed to Maine Med from the state of Maine for unpaid Medicare bills it's in the hundred millions and rising.
The only reason you are getting care is because doctor's are doing charity work to Medicare/Medicaid patients and passing off the unpaid expenses to people who have private health care. Why in the world would anyone entertain the idea of a single payer system when the "payer" doesn't have any money? Are you kidding me? IF the government expands this broken system to cover all uninsured Americans, where is that money going to come from? IF the government succeeds in this system implementation, the private health care sector will skyrocket as more of the debt will be passed off onto paying citizens. Once people are screwed with the outrageous bills from their current private health, they will be forced to switch to government care.
Sorry, well written article with sadly misinterpruted facts.
