Life As an Unemployed Veteran of the Iraq War from Maine

Loyalty. Duty. Respect. Selfless Service. Honor. Integrity. Personal Courage. (LDRSHIP).
I wore these words on a dog tag the day I entered the United States Army. A freshly pressed uniform, the shine of new boots, my first military issued haircut. I was proud as hell to serve in the footsteps of patriots and heroes.
I will never forget giving my farewell to fellow graduates of Yarmouth High School as I shipped out to Basic Combat Training in 2003. My decision to serve in the Armed Forces was an easy one. Two grandparents, two cousins and a family of veterans encouraged my decision to fight for the values of "our" countr....

This kind of article needed to be written, because I'm sure there are many more out there like you.

It's hard for everyone right now, but it's a shame to struggle for employment after you've served this country and been led to believe that the army would serve you upon your return.

A real eye-opener

Amazing article, Cole...it's a shame that this is going on, for you and for so many other veterans out there. It's important for people to understand the magnitude of the problem, and for the voices of veterans to be heard. Hopefully with increased awareness, some real change can take place.
