Arbor Week for Maine
Since 1978, Maine has recognized the third full week in May as Arbor Week. Forest products are an $11 billion industry in Maine, employing more than 20,000 Maine workers, according to the Maine Forest Service. Leef-peepers send another $1.3 billion to the state each year.
“Community trees and parks are part of what differentiates Maine from ‘Anywhere, USA,’” Governor Baldacci said in a statement. “And trees are vital to our outdoor recreation industry by providing shade on a warm summer hike and putting on a spectacular display of color every fall.”
