Chicago, IL, United States (4E Sports) – The Chicago Blackhawks have traded forward Ryan Garbutt to Anaheim Ducks for forward Jiri Sekac , both teams announced Thursday.
“Probably a good opportunity for both guys,” Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. “Get a look and probably more opportunity to play.”
The 23-year-old Sekac has one goal and two assists in 22 games this season. In 91 NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens and Ducks, he has 10 goals and 26 points.
Sekac is in the final season of his contract and can become a restricted free agent on July 1, according to war-on-ice.com.
The 30-year-old Garbutt , for his part, has two goals and six points in 43 games with the Blackhawks, his first with the organization.
Garbutt played his first four NHL seasons with the Dallas Stars, and was traded to the Blackhawks on July 12, 2015, along with defenseman Trevor Daley, for forward Patrick Sharp and defenseman Stephen Johns.
In 241 NHL games with the Stars and Blackhawks, Garbutt has 32 goals and 76 points. Garbutt has another season after this one on his contract and can become an unrestricted free agent July 1, 2017.
